Follow directions: Make sure to follow your doctors directions fully. Also, keep the head elevated, avoid salt and other things that lead to water retention, and apply ice water soaked gauze a to the eyes for a few days after. You can also ask your doctor about arnica montana, a natural supplement that may diminish swelling.

Head not neck elevat: To minimize immediate postoperative swelling for the first several nights it is essential to sleep with your head elevated above the level of your heart. It is important not to tuck your chin or flex your neck which can actually make the swelling in your face worse by kinking the neck veins causing an outflow obstruction. So avoid a pillow under your head and use more of a wedge for your back/head.

Reduce swelling: Using cold compresses for the first 24-48 hours, sleeping with your head elevated on 2-3 pillows for the first couple of weeks, avoiding salty foods, strenuous activity, alcohol, and flying, are all measures that will minimize swelling after rhinoplasty.
