I had surgery under general 5 weeks ago. i haven't been myself since. i'm dizzy, anxious, nauseous, my joints are sore, headaches. can anesthetic have these long term effects and if so, how long?

Shouldn't be: Five weeks is an awful long time to have effects of general anesthesia. Having said that, everyone reacts to anesthesia and the stress if the operation differently. Maybe this is normal for you. If it persisted or gets worse, see your doctor to make sure the operation didn't unmask some other underlying problem. Hope you feel better soon.

Multiple symptoms: I answeredsimilar question just now! anesthetics are long gone from your body. See your surgeon for proper evaluation.

Very unlikely: Inhalational anesthetics (gas) are 99% eliminated from body within a few hours. Are you taking any narcotics?

Not really.: Generally not that long and tend to go away in few days. Your symptoms could be related to the type of surgery you had as compared to the aneathesia. Contact your surgeon/primary doc.
