It doesn't: Menopause is a life stage after which follicle development and estrogen/progesterone production in the ovary ends. It is lifelong. However, menopausal symptoms (like hot flashes) may dissipate after about five years. Other symptoms, such as vaginal dryness, may persist.

Varies: technically menopause ends with the last period, however you are probably referring to the symptoms of menopause. Symptoms may persists for a few months to several years. It varies tremendously and there is no way to predict for any one individual how long symptoms may persist
