Close monitoring: It should be followed at regular intervals (at least once a year). If it reaches a specified size, enlarges rapidly, or becomes painful, it will need to be treated - either by surgery or by placement of a graft inside the aneurysm percutaneously (without surgery).

Depends: The treatment of an abdominal aortic aneurysm depends on a number of factors. Aneurysms should be followed with ultrasound on a serial basis until they reach 5.5 CM or they exhibit rapid growth within a defined period of time. At that point the decision on how to repair the aneurysm depends on a number of anatomic factors that can be defined by an endovascular surgeon.
