Make it fun: Depends on child's age. Being a parent is no easy chore! the only thing that you can do is make it as much fun as possible and not an issue between you two. There are some tb's that play music, etc. And have well known children's characters on them. Also use positive reinforcement and know that you are not alone in this parental challenge. Hopefully it gets easier over time. Hang in there.

Some tips: Toddlers like to do everything they see so let him watch you brush your teeth. Make it a game. Let him use his own toothbrush and brush his own teeth then go over and brush them again. Some adult toothpastes have favors that are too strong for little kids , especially mint flavor. So use a kids friendly flavor, let him pick it out. Hope this helps. Keep on brushing.

Toddler brushing: The goal of dental hygiene at that age is to make it fun. -sing a silly song -try different flavor toothpastes -let him/her pick out the toothbrush and toothpaste. Children love that power when they are toddlers. -give rewards for a job well done. -show them how you do it and how easy it is. Main thing is to make it fun for them and you. It can be very challenging i know.

Toddler brushing: Try different flavors of tooth paste (very small amounts because they do not know how to rinse/spit). You can try you brush / i brush on them and yourself. Let the toddler brush your teeth first. Brushing sessions can be somewhere other than the bathroom. Sit on the floor in the living room with a wash cloth. Combine brushing with other fun things or games.

Use 2 toothbrushes: Use 2 toothbrushes. One for you to brush with and one for your toddler to hold and play with. That usually does the trick.

Be gently persistant: This is what toddlers do. Brush his teeth twice a day. Use a soft, toddler sized toothbrush so you will not hurt his gums. Use a non-fluoridated toddler toothpaste so you don't have to worry about him swallowing it. Each time you brush start in a different area so that if you don't get all the way through the areas you reach will overlap after couple of times. He will eventually come around.

Try: Making into a fun routine. Singing the same song each time or even watching a brushing video on a laptop can be a good distraction. Sometimes there isn't much that works. In those case just tough it out, eventually he''ll see that it isn't scary and in the meantime he'll have clean teeth. Toughing it out with brushing is always easier than having a tough time at the dentist to restore cavities.
