Hiatal hernia: A small hiatal hernia, meaning no bigger than 2cm, shouldn't be a problem when it comes to exercise. It may cause you some heartburn, and strenuous exercise may exacerbate that a bit, but for the most part you should be able to do whatever exercises you want to.

Exercise away!: The more common, or sliding hiatal hernia means the opening in the diaphragm for the esophagus is enlarged and some of the stomach slide up into the chest. Extreme straining or tightening of the abdominal muscles may increase reflux symptoms but is unlikely to cause any significant problems.
