Not widely used: This test is not used in routine clinical practice treating fibromyalgia. The predominance of evidence suggests that fibromyalgia is not an autoimmune process, and is not likely to justify the risks and expense of immune suppressing medicine.

"Antipolymer antibodies" were identified in the wake of the dubious claim that breast implants caused systemic disease (lupus, scleroderma, fibromyalgia). They are still discussed but correlations, if any, are weak and variable. No one even seems to know what the antigen is, and I would urge you not to look to anyone offering this assay for any kind of answer or guide to your own treatment. Until there's a powerful, reproducible finding, this will remains a "sleeper".

Part of immune syste: Antibodies are proteins made by your immune system to attach to things that the immune system is trying to eliminate from your body, such as bacteria and viruses. Normally they are made only against foreign substances (i.e. Those not naturally occurring in the body). Certain drugs, like Avastin (bevacizumab) for example, are also made as antibodies.

All the same: Antibodies are complex protein molecules made by the immune system. The have a variable portion that can be made specific to a target. "monoclonal" refers to antibodies whose variable regions are all the same. When directed at specific biological targets, e.g. Inflammatory mediators, they can be used as drugs ("biologics") to modify diseases.

What is the NS1 antibody?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Corey Clay
Allergy and Immunology 10 years experience
Not sure,: there could be multiple answers to this (it seems like NS1 could be a common abbreviation). I do know that a structural protein associated with viruses (that cause diseases such as Dengue fever and Yellow fever) is used for diagnosis. ie, if you have antibody to this NS1 protein, then you have been exposed to that pathogen
