Wrist: The newest technique is to use the radial artery in the wrist. The advantage is that it is an easily compressible artery so that bleeding is easily controlled after the test. Moreover, you can get up and walk immediately (not possible when the groin is used). The neck is not used for elective tests.

Groin/ arm/ neck: The difference lies mostly in operator preference and experience. There are higher complication rates when using the brachial (upper arm) approach due to ability to compress the artery after the catheter is removed. Some pain at the insertion site is possible after the procedure, which may be a consideration.
