Compression: Sounds like you have a compressed nerve somewhere which can cause the numbness, as for the diabetes diabetic neuropathy can cause the numbness of which you speak of but generally found in severe diabetics and seen mostly in the lower extremities.

Pinky finger: Diabetes can cause neuropathy or nerve damage. I would also check out to see if the ulnar nerve which is what goes to the pinky is affected. See your primary care for initial evaluation and follow up.

Cubital tunnel syn: Your symptoms may represent a cubital tunnel syndrome. Best to see a neurologist and have an emg/nct test done. If the diagnosis of cubital tunnel is confirmed then you will likely be referred to a hand surgeon. If other causes are identified then your pcp or the neurologist will manage that for you.
