Depending on: When your last cleaning was. If it was or around six months ago then preferable to get a good cleaning prior to starting ortho treatment. During ortho treatment cleanings are recommended every three to six months depending on your level of oral hygiene. Hope this helps. Invest in a waterpik if you don't have one. Good luck.

Yes: You should begin your orthodontic treatment with clean teeth. Depending on what type of orthodontic technique is utilized, it may be more difficult for you to maintain the level of oral hygiene before treatment, which can lead to some periodontal problems. Ideally, any periodontal problems should be addressed first.

Yes and also...: Have your teeth professionally cleaned prior to starting orthodontic treatment and if it involves brackets, wires, bands (like the photo). Not invisalign. You will need to have professional cleanings more often to reduce the chance for decay and gum line problems. Typically 3-4 times per year, more often , as needed.

Prior to Ortho: I recommend that all patients prior to starting orthodontic treatment have a thorough checkup and cleaning. You want to make sure that your gums are healthy and there are absolutely no cavities, defective fillings, or incipient caries present. It's harder to keep your teeth clean during orthodontic treatment and therefore more important to eliminate any chance of problems.
