Many can help: First step is usually a complete physical check up to be sure any medical conditions are being properly treated. There also should be an evaluation and a treatment plan by a mental health professional. This will usually involve psychotherapy with or without medication.

Professional can: help. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is often the most effective approach to treating hypochondria. Psychoeducation and exposure therapy have been used as well as treatment with antidepressant medications when warranted.
