I have been suffering from "writers cramp". doctors have prescribed botox injection as remedy. is this necessary?

Probably not: Botox work by weakening muscle function. I don't really see how weakening the muscle will help unless you weaken the hand so much that you are unable to write. A splint would be a more effective and much cheaper solution.
