Might it be that a psychiatric patient withstand the pressures of a software job?

Depends: If you are acutely ill, it doesn't matter whether you are psychiatrically or physically ill. You should see your doctor and stay off work. If you have been ill in the past but your symptoms are controlled, and you have an ongoing relationship with your doctor, there is no reason not to go to work.
