A member asked:

Normal spleen, can it grow back from having a spleenectomy?

No: A spleen will not regenerate in the normal anatomical position after splenectomy. However, if the capsule of the spleen is disrupted during removal, a condition called splenosis can develop where little collections of splenic tissue form in the abdominal cavity.

No: very rarely, if the spleen is injured and some of the spleen tissue implants elsewhere in the abdomen. This is very rare though, usually the spleen is gone for good.
