Find cause first: Because there are many different reasons for cough, it is important to identify the cause, so a specific treatment can be offered. Using a "cough suppressant" doesn't really get to the cause. If cough has been going on longer than 6 weeks, it is chronic and causes include asthma, post nasal drip from allergies or sinus infection and ge (acid) reflux. A pulmonologist or allergist can help.
