Pregnant & cold sore: There are insufficient data on the use of lysine in pregnancy; so it is best not to use it. Abreva, however, being a topical treatment should be ok. You should be able to get adequate lysine naturally in the foods you eat. Avoid foods high in arginine (chocolate, nuts, protein shakes, vitamins high in arginine) as it antagonizes lysine and may exacerbate cold sores. Some also advise avoiding—>.
