Many causes: Ileitis is simply an inflammation of the distal small bowel - ileum. Although crohn's disease is a common cause of ileitis, multiple other causes are possible: infections, musculoskeletal inflammatory syndromes, tumors (carcinoid), vasculitis, lack of blood flow, and drugs. Testing is a variable as the diseases which cause ileitis.
