Yes!: Baking soda, or bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) of soda, is an acid neutralizer. As such , when you eat it, it neutralizes the acid in your stomach. Without acid, your body cannot digest food to access the multitude of nutrients in it. Result: malnutrition. Once in a while, a small amount may calm an "acid stomach" or heartburn--but that's all. If more is needed, seek help from your pcp.
