Baking soda is a...: weak base used to counteract acid. It would be gentle enough to drink for conditions like heartburn. If you treat your hair gently and don't use the baking soda again it should get back to normal within a few weeks. Your dry hair and skin could be a deficiency from nursing. Keep taking your prenatal vitamins and maybe fish oil caps. You might also have your thyroid levels checked.

However, some people have documented hair damage due to this agent, likely due to the pH differences between hair and the baking soda. If it is not doing good things for someone's hair, they should stop using it and see a qualified cosmetologist.
