Charlie horse: It is unlikely that a charlie horse would damage the big toe joint. However , a podiatrist can take x rays and examine you to make sure all is ok. Good luck !

Exam: It wouldn't be uncommon for an adult to haves some arthritis in those joints, but not a 16yo. You should see a podiatrist for an evaluation. You might have problems with the growth plates, biomechanical issues or even something like juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. No need to be alarmed at this point but get it checked, just in case.
