Ear pressure: It is possible that your eustation tube was having trouble equalizing the pressure change on descent which could make you body begin to panic with the pain. If this is the only time i would not be concerned and try chewing gum next time on descent. If it happens again not in an airplane you should get in to see your md asap for a diagnosis.
