A member asked:

What happens if you get diagnosed with diabetes and you aren't currently in the hospital?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually outpatient: And not an emergency if you're talking about type 2 diabetes. Most often done in the doctor's office and then you receive an out-patient program of diet and diabetes education plus medication as dictated by your doctor, if necessary. Acute onset of type 1 diabetes, however, may require hospitalization.
