Training: Pacemakers are inserted by thoracic and cardiothoracic surgeons. After medical school there is a 5 year surgical residency and 3-5 year fellowship. In emergent situations emergency medicine, cardiology and critical care physicians/intensivists are trained to place "temporary" pacemakers.
