A member asked:

Do the side effects of antipsychotic use (quetiapine) eventually go away after discontinuing? (uncontrolled mouth movements in elderly)

Oral dyskinesia: Anti-psychotic drugs can lead to tardive dyskinesias in many, but newer drugs such as quetiapine do this far less commonly. If the pt has dentures, and ill-fitting, could be a very benign problem called denture dyskinesia. Several other disorders can cause facial movements. A neurologist skilled in movement disorders can pinpoint the cause and treat successfully.

Please: See your psychiatrist. The side effects you're referring to tardive dyskinesia can be treated pharmacologically. However there isn't a concrete answer regarding if this will remit if medication is discontinued . As always don't cease any medication abruptly and talk to the prescriber.
