I can't afford weight loss surgery and am thinking of starting the 5 bite diet to get me started and to a healthier weight. is this a good option?

Just eat less: Don't try any fancy, flashy short-term diet that you saw on tv or the internet. What you need is good quality food in reduced amounts and more exercise. You need to find a nutrition plan you can live with the rest of your life, not just days or months. Don't get your medical information from friends, tv or the internet.

Reduce weight: My philosophy is that the best way to lose weight is not by dieting, but by changing your lifestyle to a healthier one. You don't need a drastic diet. Make small changes. Eat the right portions, eat 3-5 small meals a day, cut back on carbs and sugars, increase lean protein/veggie/fruit/water intake, and start doing some cardiovascular exercise. Get health insurance. They pay for weight loss surger.

Weight loss diets: There are hundreds of different diets available for patients that are serious about weight loss. Currently, over 2/3 of amercians are overweight or obese. This is because of larger portion size, and lack of exercise. Many fad diets come and go. The long term success averages 5-10%. The best success is with a supervised diet and exercise plan in conjunction with a dietician and physician.
