Usually not: Most kids have stabbed their hands with a pencil at one time or another. Normal kids are healthy enough to heal up fine after a splinter or a pencil stab. If it's a big stab, not just the graphite writing tip, then the doctor at the office (not the er) can take a look. Washing it out vigorously will help. If worried about a piece still in the skin, or about anything else, the doctor can check.

Doctor not hospital : Although this is a scary accident, you'll get better care to see your physician first. Going to the ed may be a long wait and very expensive. Seeing your primary may allow you to get a prescription for x-rays or if they have one in their office. Hope that helps.
