He's grinding...: ... And he needs to protect his teeth from excessive wear and tear. He may not realize he is doing this. Suggest that he sees a dentist who can evaluate him for a bruxism appliance.

Time to see dentist: Your dad needs to see a dentist to evaluate his oral condition and probably make a mouth guard to reduce the damage that nightly teeth grinding can cause. Also you may consider a sleep study to evaluate for sleep apnea.
