Pain and Numbness: If the hip hurts but the pain goes down to the knee, calf, foot or toes, you may wish to consider it sciatica - a pinched nerve in your back. If the pain doesn't get better after 6 - 8 weeks of rest from high demand activity, tylenol (acetaminophen) or anti-inflammatory medicines, it may be worth seeing a doctor. If the leg loses function (weakness) or if other major health issues develop - see one sooner.
