Call your dentist: You need to call and schedule an appointment with your dentist. In the interim, try to brush the inflamed tissues over the wisdom tooth that is coming in, use warm salt rinses, avoid chewing on that side, and take an over the counter pain medication. Ice over the affected area may also reduce the intensity of pain.

Dental examination: You need to see your dentist to determine the reason for the pain. Sometimes the gums surrounding the erupting wisdom tooth gets inflamed (called pericoronitis) or in other cases the wisdom tooth might be impacted meaning that there is not enough room for it to come out in a normal way. Either ways your dentist well determine the cause and suggest treatment
