A member asked:

Please help, how much potassium does it take to have an overdose in the human body?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Electrolytes: Potassium is an important electrolyte in the conduction system of the body. It allows for nerves to transmit their impulses and muscles to respond. When levels get high (over 5) it may cause irregularities in heart rhythm. Every 10meq ingested raises serum values by .1. If there is renal disease the kidney can't remove the excess and values may get dangerously high.
