A member asked:

Could you tell me if someone has cancer, will they just randomly lose weight?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No, not really: Weight loss implies either poor food intake or increased catabolic activity due to metabolic effects of progressive cancer. A cancer pateint doing well does not lose weight unless they have poor appetite and are not eating well due to some reason related to treatment of due to cancer. Weight loss requires complete assessment to determine the cause and try correcting it.
