Yes: In most cases with an anxious patient, anti-anxiety medication is routinely given when the patient is cleared for the operating room, all necessay preoperative discussions have been completed, and surgical consents are signed. These medications are usually given by or on the order of the anesthetist assigned to that patients procedure.
