Family history: Women who are brca 1 or 2 positive are definitely candidates for preventative or risk reducing surgery including removal of tubes and ovaries. Brca negative women with a family history of ovarian cancer can also be offered risk reducing surgery. Their lifetime risk can range from about 4-11% and their are no good screening tests available.
