Blocked tear duct: It is not uncommon for infants to experience a blockage of the tear drainage duct--this can lead to tears sitting longer in the eyes and abnormal drainage. A visit to a pediatric ophthalmologist or an oculo plastics specialist should show the cause quickly. The treatment can be observation or a surgical procedure that "pops" the duct open--very short procedure.
