A 36-year-old member asked:

Normally, how long would the hiv/ aids virus live in the body once a person passes away?

Dr. Douglas Miller
Pathology 43 years experience
Less than a day?: I don't know of a study on this but in general most viruses don't survive long in dead tissue. Attempts to culture virus post-mortem are usually done as quicly as possible for that reason. I would suspect the success of such a culture more than 24 hours after death would be low.
Created for people with ongoing healthcare needs but benefits everyone.
