Possiblly- or not: Hiv dementia is less prevelent now with current HIV medications but is still noted. Treatment(meds), mood, and a complete work-up is needed. This should include neuro-psychological testing- which is even more helpful if obtained at diagnosis for comparison but not often done these days. Neurological evaluation along with infectious disease re-evaluation.

HIV Associated Neurocognitive Disorder is a disorder that requires thorough evaluation, and multiple specialties are often involved. Testing should include neuroimaging, blood work particularly looking at CD4 counts and for exclusion of possible opportunistic infections contributing to cognitive decline (AIDS), and ruling out other possible causes for dementia (B12 deficiency or Thyroid problems)
