Accurate diagnosis: There can be differences in treating asthma vs bronchitis. A lung specialist can assess with lung function tests, etc to determine if treatment should be directed at bronchitis or asthma. For persistent asthma, the most effective daily treatment is inhaled steroids like qvar, flovent, etc. All patients should have a quick relief inhaler such as albuterol and a plan on when and how much to take.
