A member asked:

Could you tell me if my grandparents (on both sides) had diabetes, am i likely to get it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Above average risk: Type 2 diabetes is clearly genetic, but the genetics are complicated. Your grandparents had diabetes, but (?) your parents do not. Nevertheless, you are still at higher risk than someone with no family history. It is not possible to give you a precise likelihood, but best to make best effort to keep your weight under control and exercise.
