I wanted to know when you have a tooth pulled, what is dry socket?

A hole: Dry socket is essentially when a blood clot either doesn't form or is prematurely broken down or lost from the extraction site...Leaving an open wound.

Altered healing: Typically, 2 to 3 days after an extraction, a patient feels severe pain. Essentially what happens is that the blood clot filling the extraction site is lost and the underlying bone is exposed. This is easily treated by placing medication into the socket to relieve the pain, promote clot formation and resumed healing of the area.
