Dry sockets after extractions are not very common. The usual issue is that the patient ignores post operative instructions and rinses and/or gargles incessantly thinking that it is necessary to keep the wound clean. Avoid rinsing, gargling or brushing the wound for at least 24-48 hours to prevent dislodging the blood clot. That should help avoid the problem.

Follow your Dentist's post-treatment instructions to the letter to reduce risk of dry socket. You might wish to have procedure done by specialist Oral Surgeon. Make sure to advise whoever does the extraction of your past history.
