Ascites: Ascites is a serious condition. It can be caused by liver disease, cirrhosis, congestive heart failure, cancer and kidney failure. You should go to a gastroenterologist to have that doctor order some tests on your liver, kidney and heart. You may also need to have some ascitic fluid removed to help arrive at the diagnosis of what is causing your ascites to develop.
