A member asked:

Son, 7, dropped from 66 to 59lb last few months. not sick. eating cereal instead of meals numerous times a week (his choice). should we be worried?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Have him examined: Usually kids at age 7 don't lose weight unless you have purposely decreased high calorie foods in their diet (e.g.- high calorie drinks, fast foods, snack items). Cereal is filling and has a lot o calories usually. Replacing a meal with cereal under most circumstances still provide calories and patient shouldn't lose weight. You'll need to use a vitamin to supplement what cereal doesn't provide.
