Blood flow?: Make sure you don't eat right before exercising. After you eat, blood flow is directed to your gut for digestion. When you exercise, blood flow is diverted to your muscles, and could cause stomach cramps if you've recently eaten, and sometimes just with over-exertion. This is why your mom always told you to wait 1/2 hr before swimming :).
