Propofol safety: Propofol is generally a safe medication when used appropriately. If a patient is given too much, given the medication too rapidly, or if the patient is hypovolemic or already has cardiac issues, Propofol can potentially cause hypotension which may lead to cardiac arrhythmias. There is no direct cardiac dysrhythmic effect but arrhythmias can occur if Propofol is not given with care.
