Local anaesthetic: There is a cream available for numbing the skin in kids prior to injections or starting an iv. It is called Emla (lidocaine and prilocaine) cream that is available thru prescription only. It needs to be applied half hour to an hour before the procedure.

No: I would suggest that you do not medicate your children. The shot is a very minimal pain. One simple option is to use an ice cube on the site of injection before the shot.
