See DDS asap!: We can't help you, at least not over the internet. You will need to see a dentist asap in order to diagnose and fix the problem. Tooth problems can cause pain in the jaw. It might be an infected tooth, possibly a wisdom tooth which would account for you not being able to open your jaw fully. Please don't delay treatment as things will only get worse. Take some otc pain medication in the meantime.

Consider muscle pain: This may be pain caused by grinding or clenching teeth. Muscular tension can cause this type of pain. Have you recently been in an accident? I have seen accidents while playing sports cause this type of reaction. I recommend finding a dentist who will do an exam and identify the issue. It is possible a tooth is causing this pain as well.

Not likely muscle: Pain of this magnitude may indicate an infection of a tooth which is being processed as "jaw" pain. See a dentist asap to rule out the most common reasons.
