Find cause of pain: Pain from liver failure varies, usually depending upon the primary disease. Many patients with liver cirrhosis and liver failure have no pain at all. However, if your disease causes chronic inflammation, or if you have ascites with infection, you can have severe pain that requires ongoing management with pain medications. Your hepatologist must distinguish the cause and prescribe medications.
