As common as...: It is as common as a whack on the head. Almost any whack on the head (or sudden turning of the head) can lead to post-concussive syndrome. We used to say that you have to lose consciousness to have a concussion. Now we know that it takes a lot less to have symptoms. If this is you, see your doc right away.
