Viral, chemical: These are most likely apthous ulcers. They are usually viral in etiology. They can also be triggered by chemical irritation from spicy foods, astringent mouthwashes, and hormonal fluctuations in females.

Your description: Sounds like recurrent apthous stomatitis or a trauma ulcer. There is a relationship to immune system issues. These can be quite painful for a few days, then they hopefully resolve. Avoid acidic foods & toothpaste w sodium lauryl sulfate. Look for zilactin b at your pharmacy. If these lesions are not gone in 10-14 days let ur dentist evaluate the area. There are prescriptions to help as well.

Gargle and avoid...: Sores are likely herpes virus that has reactivated to due the virus perceiving stress: 1.There may be too much bacteria in the mouth, which will slow healing- reduce the burden of bacteria by gargling with listerine or salt water 60seconds twice a day until the sores go away, and 2. Avoid sour, citrus, acidic, spicey foods which will irritate the sore.
