Not a simple answer: Bronchitis in generally healthy individuals is probably a viral syndrome that is treated symptomatically. If there are other medical conditions present (smoker, copd, immunodeficiency) then some bacteria may be the cause and antibiotics can be prescribed. Asthma at times can be misdiagnosed as bronchitis. Speaking with one's physician should help define the best treatment.
